wellness

What is ‘wellness’? Wellness is always directly related to losing weight and yet someone can be thin but still unwell. My philosophy is that weight loss is a by-product of wellness and health is the journey you take to losing weight (if that’s what you need to do) and improving your health. After all, anyone can simply eat less and lose weight, but that doesn’t necessarily make them healthy. If I were to sum up ‘wellness’, I would say it’s a combination of eating nutrient-rich food at least 80% of the time, exercising daily, having a positive mindset, allocating time for relaxation, being surrounded by supportive friends and family members, feeling love, being happy and feeling confident. We are less likely to succumb to lifestyle-linked diseases if our life is a reflection of these things.

Wellness ‘coaching’ is about guiding someone on their path to wellness while helping them to recognise not only the direction in which they wish to go but also the steps they need to take to get there.

This can be associated not only with what they eat, and how much they exercise, but also with identifying what their goals and objectives are for their life. What are the things they want to do in their life? How do they want to feel? And who do they want to be – but most importantly, what are the roadblocks to achieving these things? Once someone recognises and acknowledges what’s holding them back, then often everything else falls into place.

A Wellness Coach’s role isn’t to diagnose someone’s psychological condition. There are specialists for that. Sometimes however, problems that seem overwhelming, when they’re broken down into much smaller chunks, are easier to deal with, giving us back our feeling of empowerment or control which we lose when we are overwhelmed. Sometimes, just the act of being in control can resolve a lot of other issues, especially where doubt and self-worth are concerned. If you feel physically and emotionally strong, you’ll be strong! And feeling strong can be the result of attaining goals such as changing your lifestyle which may include what you eat, eating the right portion sizes and making exercise part of your routine.

Peer pressure and simply a lack of awareness can lead to eating the wrong foods but then it can be overwhelming to try and do something about it. Usually people’s attempts at controlling their weight are aborted because they simply don’t know where to start.

Enter your Wellness Coach! I help you to break ‘problems’ down into bite size, manageable pieces. Knowing where to start on a wellness journey, in most people’s minds, is a giant, overwhelming problem! I can help simplify it for you and get you on your path quickly. There’s no ‘rah rah’ (as someone I know doing another program put it!), just good, sensible and regular discussion, as well as some things to get you motivated and thinking about wellness a little differently to how you may have thought about it before.

My 8 week Wellness Coaching program is comprised of weekly face-to-face catch ups as well as 15 minute weekly check-in calls. At the end of the program you will get a report on what we did throughout the program which will be your blueprint for going forward. My goal is for you to be able to maintain your path as independently as possible. If you need to catch up once in a while once the program has concluded, I have a “Maintenance” option which is basically casual catch-ups on an as-needed basis.
